  1. THE COREL ARTVIEW SCREEN SAVER

  4.  The ArtView screen saver displays a range of pictures on the
  5.  screen when the computer is idle. The pictures are retrieved
  6.  from a CD and displayed in random order. 
  7.  
  8.  When you want to use your computer, press any key on the keyboard
  9.  or move the mouse. ArtView stops displaying pictures and Microsoft
  10.  Windows removes it from memory.
  11.

  13. HOW THE SCREEN SAVER WORKS
  14. --------------------------

  16.  Once your computer has been idle for a period of time, Windows
  17.  loads the ArtView screen saver program. ArtView searches the system
  18.  for installed CD-ROM drives and makes a list of the drives' volume
  19.  labels. If no CD-ROM drives are found, ArtView checks the hard disk.
  20.  When all valid files are found, ArtView selects a file and
  21.  loads it into memory.

  23.  ArtView 1.0 accepts the following bit map file formats:
  24.  
  25.     - Windows 3.0 BMP format (1, 4 and 8 bits per pixel)
  26.     - PCX format (1, 2, 3, 4 and 8 bits per pixel)
  27.     - GIF format (version 87a)
  28.     - PCD Kodak PhotoCD format
  29.  
  30.  For ArtView to load a file, it must be smaller than 2MB (or
  31.  available memory) and larger than 64 pixels on a side.

  33.  You can configure the screen saver to specify
  34.  
  35.     - the directories, by volume, that you want to include or exclude 
  36.       from the viewer
  37.     - the length of time that you want each picture displayed
  38.     - whether pictures are displayed randomly or sequentially
  39.     - the drive to use if CD-ROM drives aren't installed. You can 
  40.       specify local or network drives
  41.     - whether pictures fade in and out
  42.     - whether the file name is displayed on the screen with its picture
  43.  
  44. SETTING UP THE SCREEN SAVER
  45. ---------------------------

  47.  To use the Corel ArtView screen saver
  48.  
  49.  1. Install the PCDLIB.DLL file and the ARTVIEW.SCR screen
  50.     saver files in the same directory. The CorelSCSI for Windows
  51.     installation automatically puts these files in the Windows 
  52.     directory.   
  53.  
  54.  2. Double-click the Control Panel icon in your Main group.
  55.  
  56.  3. Double-click the DeskTop icon and locate the Screen Saver item.
  57.  
  58.  4. Click the arrow to the right side of "Name".
  59.  
  60.  5. Select 'Corel ArtView'.
  61.  
  62.  6. Exit the Control Panel. The screen saver is activated with
  63.     its default settings.

  65.  To modify the screen saver default settings
  66.  
  67.  1. Select the 'Setup' button.
  68.  
  69.  2. Choose the picture size, view time, effects,
  70.     default disk, directories from which you want files displayed.

  76.  Corel has successfully tested the Corel ArtView screen saver with a
  77.  number of video cards and drivers. However, with the variety of 
  78.  available video products, problems may occur with certain 
  79.  configurations.
